Update 3: I’m reliably informed that the Value Investing Forum run by Stig and Preston at The Investors Podcast is also a good location.
Update 3: We’ve set up a forum at The Acquirer’s Multiple® along with a free deep value stock screener.
Update 2: I think the Corner of Berkshire or the Reddit Security Analysis threads are money. I’m leaning towards Reddit because it’s free, but shout me down. I’m going to stick the link into the menu at the top of the page and then loiter there.
Update: I’d also like to hear your thoughts on the best forums (on any subject) from which I can shamelessly steal.
Folks, I’d like to hear your opinions on the best value investing forums on the web. The bigger the community, the more frequent the posting, and the freer the better. If none exist, then I plan to set one up.
Buy my book The Acquirer’s Multiple: How the Billionaire Contrarians of Deep Value Beat the Market from on Kindle, paperback, and Audible.
Here’s your book for the fall if you’re on global Wall Street. Tobias Carlisle has hit a home run deep over left field. It’s an incredibly smart, dense, 213 pages on how to not lose money in the market. It’s your Autumn smart read. –Tom Keene, Bloomberg’s Editor-At-Large, Bloomberg Surveillance, September 9, 2014.

What are the possible investment options for a billion dollar portfolio held by a Middle Eastern family whose initial plan is to keep the funds in a bank until they require use of it; possibly 10 years later?
I am not an investment consultant but assuming i can persuade them to invest it so that at the end of 10 years they can sell off their shares/business for a profit, what kind of investment options are apt for this volume of funds and which Investment Funds Manager/companies are in a position to better handle the portfolio.
There is no restriction to location of investment or type of investment though Hospitality/Leisure or Energy Industries top their preference.
A management fee is attached to this portfolio or the option of equity stake in the successful project that the investment funds manager will oversee from design, groundbreaking, commissioning and operations.
I am hopeful i will be pointed in the right direction to secure the services of competent investment fund managers.
I am open to private discussions via my email stanleyhammerton@gmail.com as well as discussions on this forum.

Hey Toby. VIC is best in class. We’ve also taken a look at SumZero. Hope all is well. Chris

Hey Chris, Thank you I’m familiar with both, but I’m not looking for a focus on stock picks. More a Reddit-style “upvoted” list of interesting articles with some stock picks but no obligation to post no a regular basis.

the creators of twitter have started a new service called “Medium” which is aimed at producing shared posts of higher quality as opposed to quantity like on Twitter. Here is an about: https://medium.com/about/9e53ca408c48. Sounds interesting to me and goes into the direction of what you are looking for.

I’m going to have to vote for Corner of Berkshire and Fairfax as well. Free and excellent info.

Good to know. I think I’ll check it out. Can I create dedicated Greenbackd and Quantitative Value threads there?

Corner of Berkshire and Fairfax is the best and you can view all the posts for free. The reason you have to pay to register and post is because a ridiculous amount of spammers sign up and it takes a lot of the owners time to get rid of them. Also it helps to pay for the cost of hosting. But he could have changed it to free now because I see a lot new members sign up, I would go talk to him about it.
Tobias and valueprax, I would like to see you guys on there. There is a lot of insight to glean every week. Presonally I have benefited from it. I like to give back also.

Good advice, thank you. Anyone use the Reddit value thread? http://www.reddit.com/r/SecurityAnalysis/

I wouldn’t call it a thread, it is a subreddit. I think it is alright but there is only re-posting of blog posts. Not much discussion. Plus your dealing with twenty somethings who don’t have much knowledge. Who are new to investing.

New is ok. I just want a large community, frequent posting, and free. The subreddit might be too small, but I’m worried that even Corner’s $10 is going to be too much of an obstacle for many potential participants.

Twitter. You can find ideas, discussion, and etc with ease. If you want more detail, most value guys will e-mail you or post their idea on the web.

I like Twitter for that reason also but I feel I miss a lot. On a dedicated forum the better / more interesting ideas seem to float to the top. For example, http://www.reddit.com/r/SecurityAnalysis/. Ever use that thread?

There is Corner of Berkshire and Fairfax, but I think it costs money. And there is the VIC, but they don’t let just any old schmuck in.

Open, baby. Free and open.

The thing which you describe (a value investor forum organized along the swinger mentality) is not currently available in this universe.

And more’s the pity. Any thoughts on good web-hosted forums (on any subject) from which I can shamelessly steal?
